BOOK REVIEW – The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner

I could have read this in one sitting, but had to eat and sleep in between! It’s soooo good!!
Tash is mom to 2-year-old Finn and wife to Tom, a doctor who’s just started a new job on rotation in A & E at a London hospital. She herself is a freelance journalist trying to find that story that will establish her career now that she’s found herself without permanent employment.
She picks up on hints of what could be an interesting story about a young nanny who was found drowned in an area nearby, but it seems to be an open-and-shut case.
Finn struggles to settle in his new playgroup and Tash is envious of the tight trio of moms who she sees going for daily coffees after drop-off, obviously a close-knit group of friends. When she’s invited to join them, she eagerly grabs the opportunity, hoping that her son can make friends and have an easier time at playgroup.
As Tash becomes closer to her new friends, she starts to seriously work on the story of the Nanny that’s not quite as simple as it originally appeared, and her life starts to become more complicated than she ever imagined!
This is a fast-paced, chilling read, told in alternating chapters from Tash’s point of view and also going back to Sophie, the Nanny’s point of view in the months and days leading up to her death.
An interesting perspective of perception: how we perceive the lives of others, whether it’s those who we think are better off than us, those who work for us, or those who we work for.
Highly recommended!!
