It’s always an absolute thrill and privilege to be invited to participate in a Kim Nash blog tour. Her books never, ever disappoint – I’d go so far as to say that I’d love to actually live in a Kim Nash book! And Finding Family at the Cornish Cove is no different.
Blurb:
Family is everything … In the years since her death, Gemma has been running her late mother’s cafĂ© with devotion, and when an opportunity comes to buy out her next-door neighbour and expand, she jumps at the chance.
She knows she will do her mother proud –keep her legacy going strong – but deep down she knows there’s still something missing. With her mum in her mind more than ever, and the knowledge that she may never start a family of her own, she can’t stop thinking about what life has in store for her.
But sometimes family are those you choose, or those who choose you! And with a growing community of supporters cheering Gemma on–including some new faces at her blossoming bistro–and maybe one in particular, will she really spend the rest of her life alone?
My Review:
This is the second in Kim Nash’s Cornish Cove series, set in gorgeous Driftwood Bay.
Gemma knows that the time has come to expand her late mother’s cafĂ©, and tentatively starts making plans to get things under way. She’s had a tough time and while she always goes out of her way to be a good friend to everyone around her, she often forgets to take good care of herself, believing that she can just keep going, regardless. Thankfully, the wonderful people in her life are there to show her that just as she always looks out for them, they’re always on hand to step in and do the same for her.
Kim Nash creates characters who are the type of people you want to sit and have a coffee with … you want to pour your heart out to them, and you want them to become your closest friends. Gemma’s cafĂ© is the very hub of her community. It’s where the buzz is. But really, it’s Gemma whose warmth and authenticity have created the magnetism that draws people into her space, making it somewhere that everyone wants to be.
When Occy and her father Jude arrive on the scene, interesting new dynamics are introduced into Gemma’s life. She slowly starts to see that the solitary future she’d imagined for herself might not actually be what’s in store, and that she could possibly be able to – tentatively – let someone into her heart again.
This is a story about many things: family, relationships, people, empathy, moving on, inner strength and healing. It’s about realising that you don’t have to do the difficult stuff on your own, and about choosing who you surround yourself with, and knowing you’ll always have your back. It’s about being able to fail sometimes because there are strong people supporting you who will help you to pick up the pieces.
I didn’t like Jude at first. I found him prickly and stand-offish. But I quickly changed my opinion, and by the middle of the book, I adored the guy! Gemma is lovely and I probably liked her even more because of her flaws. But there’s absolutely no doubt that the absolute star of this book for me, is young Occy! I can’t wait to see what’s next for her and hope she’ll be featured in future books.
My only problem with Kim Nash’s books is that I read them too quickly! But while I’m reading them, I feel like I’m being wrapped in a comforting blanket of calm serenity, and being held securely in the embrace of good company, soothing, warm beverages and yummy baked goods! Could anything be better than that?
Thank you to RaRa Resources and Boldwood Books for the blog tour.
