My Review:
I couldn’t put this down! Told with just the right balance of chills, thrills, unanswered questions and red herrings, this is a story that ticks every single box for the perfect psychological thriller.
Adam and Jess have moved their family into a large Victorian home in The Park, a smart neighbourhood in Nottinghamshire (I did love the references to Sherwood Forest!) They know they’ve extended themselves rather a lot, financially speaking, but the house is gorgeous and even though it needs lots of TLC, it’s a project they can work on together and it will all be worth it as the location is perfect for their needs.
When Adam discovers a hidden room in the house that his family has just moved into. He finds an assortment of random items there and tries to piece together their significance. In so doing, he sets into motion a series of events he could never have imagined.
The story is told from Adam’s point of view but every so often there are brief chapters thrown in about different people who seem entirely unrelated to what’s going on. I must admit, I did suspect some of the outcome, but I had no clue as to the ‘whodunit’ part of the plot until literally a page before the reveal, when it suddenly dawned on me who it could be!
This is TM Logan at his brilliant best. He creates believable, relatable down-to-earth characters who are just like you and me. He’s skilled and adept at building his story, and in so doing, heightening the tension and anticipation of where things are heading. This makes for nail-biting, unputdownable, 5-star reading!
