BLOG TOUR – One Day and Forever by Shari Low

Once again, Shari Low brings together familiar characters whose lives intercept and take dramatic, unforeseen turns over a 24-hour time-frame.

Blurb:

As dawn breaks, four people are planning journeys that could change their lives forever…

Kara McIntyre is supposed to be jetting off to her destination wedding in Hawaii. However, a last-minute hitch appears to have left her without a job, home and, more importantly, a fiancƩ.

TV sensation Ollie Chiles and Kara always have each other’s backs. But when his wife goes viral in a compromising clinch with another man, Ollie must choose between supporting his best friend in her hour of need or going home to save his marriage.

Alice Brookes is flying away to a new life after surviving a horrendous marriage and a very public scandal… until a stranger brings a letter from the past that could change everything.

After saying goodbye to someone he loves, Zac Conlan should be heading back to Dublin. Now a shocking discovery is threatening to change his plans and his future.

When weather delays their flights, Kara, Ollie, Alice and Zac discover that storms are brewing… and the turbulence is about to shake their worlds.

My Review:

The book starts with an introduction: “On This Day We Meet …” and proceeds to list the names of all the characters who we’re about to meet in the story that’s about to unfold. I’ll admit, I immediately felt overwhelmed! There seemed to be so many people and as I started to read, I quickly got a bit confused with everything going on. But then I soon settled into Shari’s familiar style, and I breathed easy again! To clarify: the story is divided up into 2-hour timeslots, and the chapters are each told from a different character’s point of view.

The main characters here are Kara, Ollie, Alice and Zac, and everything comes to a head eventually at Glasgow Airport where their flights are delayed due to bad weather. Kara is flying off to her sister Drea’s wedding in Hawaii. It was meant to be her joint wedding too, only now it’s well … not! TV star Ollie is Kara’s best friend and he’s on his way to Drea’s wedding with her, escaping the fact that his filmstar wife Sienna has just gone viral in a video featuring her getting up close and personal with someone who is definitely not her husband! Alice has finally escaped an abusive marriage after a very public scandal, and is now off to a new life with her beloved son. And Zac has just spent a very emotional time with family which has led to him making some interesting discoveries.

Apart from the connection between Kara and Ollie, where do Alice and Zac come into the picture, I hear you asking? Obviously you’ll need to read the book to find out!

In her own clever and unique way, Shari Low manages to make her characters’ convoluted lives intersect and intertwine, ensuring that there are a multitude of ‘a-ha’ moments for the reader along the way! It makes for riveting, entertaining reading. And while some of this might seem a little far-fetched, this author writes about people who are so down-to-earth and real that you find yourself wanting to sit down with them over a cup of coffee at the end of a busy day.

I really hope that the ‘One’ series continues as these are characters that I’ve become invested in. Yes, each book can be read as a standalone and it’s not really a series in the strict sense of the word, but they work best when they’ve been read in order and when you’ve followed the trajectory of the lives of everyone involved. It’s like revisiting family who live far away, and who you get to have a good catch up with every so often.
