BLOG TOUR – Anything For Her by Jack Jordan

We’re back on the Jack Jordan Blogathon, with Anything For Her, which was Jordan’s first novel, released in 2015.

Blurb:

Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you.

Louise Leighton’s life has fallen apart, all because of one fateful night. Her husband is an adulterer, her sister is his mistress, and soon, Louise will lose everything she owns. But she never imagined she would lose her daughter.

Eighteen-year-old Brooke Leighton is missing. It’s up to Louise and the Metropolitan Police to find her. Has Brooke run away? Or has she been taken against her will? And can Louise aid the investigation without mentioning the night where all of her troubles began?

If she mentions that night, she will incriminate her daughter for heinous crimes. But if she doesn’t, she may never find Brooke; and if she has been abducted, the person who took her may come for Louise, too.

Sometimes the past comes back to kill you.

My Review:

Jack Jordan is such a terrible tease!! He draws you in immediately, strings you along and then gives you a sucker-punch in the gut that will leave you gasping for air!

When we meet Louise, she is quickly unraveling. Her life has suddenly taken more than one sharp twist that she wasn’t expecting. Her husband Michael is also not quite at the pinnacle of his life that he’d thought he would reach. In fact, his life has spiraled dangerously close to a disastrous precipice. He knows he’s made numerous mistakes but he blames it all on “that night” – the night that he fell asleep beside the wife he knew and loved, and woke up beside a seemingly completely different woman. He cannot fathom what could have happened to cause the overnight change.

And it’s not just his wife. His happy-go-lucky, popular daughter, Brooke, has become a subdued introvert. Yes – I know I’m telling you all of this from the husband’s perspective and it’s not actually his story, but for some reason, the unlikeable, irresponsible Michael had an impact on me!

Louise can’t handle the level of dysfunction that her train-wreck of a home life has reached and decides that she needs to take herself off on some “time out”. So off she goes to the family country home – a decision I struggled with. She leaves behind the husband who she can no longer tolerate, but also her 18-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, Dominic.

If you thought things were bad already … they go downhill from here!

Interspersed with brief chapters from an anonymous narrator, this is a page-turning anxiety attack of a thriller that I couldn’t put down! I didnt know where it was heading (and wasnt sure I wanted to know).

Unlikeable characters, when well written are just riveting. And Jack Jordan does a stellar job at creating characters with depth and grit. Combine those with a well-plotted, perfectly paced story and this will keep you reading way past your bedtime!!
