We return to Sandpiper Shore on the picturesque Cornish coast with the second book in the series, which can easily be read as a standalone. Kim Nash’s wit and charm are her trademarks, as is her innate understanding of the nature of friendship, which comes across so well in her characterisation and in the way that she weaves magic into the very fabric of every single one of her books through the special connections that she creates.
Blurb:
When life gives you heartbreak , sometimes it also gives you a second chance…
When Tom Sullivan returns to the quiet village of Sandpiper Shore, Emma can hardly believe her eyes. She hasn’t seen him since they played Romeo and Juliet in their school play – a lifetime ago, before real heartbreak, and long before she ever imagined life as a widow.
The last thing she wants is to relive the past, especially with someone who once made her teenage heart flutter. But when Emma agrees to put on a charity pantomime to raise money for the air ambulance service that helped her late husband, she’s thrown firmly back into Tom’s path.
As rehearsals begin and the local community rallies around her, Emma finds unexpected joy in bringing people together – and a surprising connection with Tom that feels far too real to ignore. Maybe it’s time for Emma to become the leading lady in her own life, not just for the show, but for herself.
Full of warmth, humour and heart, this is a story about letting go and discovering that it’s never too late to take a chance on love.
My Review:
I found Emma to be so relatable and very early on in the story, I found myself wanting to reach out and give her a big hug. She’s still feeling adrift after losing her husband Ben, although she admits that he was rather controlling and that she lost sight of who she was due to constantly bending to his will and only doing what he preferred to do. So she now finds herself in a position where she’s on her own and no longer sure what a life of her own, doing what pleases only her, would look like.
She’s lucky to have two marvelous friends, and a supportive community, and she’s found the confidence to start her own Lonely Hearts Club as she realises that she’s not the only one in this position. But that’s basically where her self-confidence ends, especially when it comes to a second chance at love. As far as she’s concerned, that ship has sailed and when her husband died, it sank completely, never to re-surface!
But when a past love, Tom, returns, as much as everyone seems to think it’s obvious that he still has feelings for her, Emma does her best to ignore whatever she’s feeling, as she remembers the embarrassment she felt at their last encounter, some 35 years ago! She swears that she’ll do whatever it takes to avoid him. Which turns out to be just about impossible as she’s roped into planning and organising the local Pantomime to raise funds for the air ambulance, which was so helpful when her husband was ill, and Tom is playing the leading man.
This is a heartwarming story, filled with many relatable situations and likeable characters. Sandpiper Shore provides a setting of comfort and shelter, offering friendship and hope to its residents. Although some of the themes revolve around loss, pain and grief, these are handled gently, which is one of Kim Nash’s great strengths: her empathy towards readers and how they may react to tougher subject matter. The result is an uplifting read that leaves you with a smile on your face.
Thank you to Compulsive Readers, RaRa Resources and Boldwood Books for another fabulous blog tour! I would never miss the opportunity to share a Kim Nash book!
