BOOKS-ON-TOUR – Bride and Groom by Rona Halsell

If you’re looking for a page-turning, fast-reading thriller that you just can’t put down, then you’ve come to the right place. Once again, Rona Halsell doesn’t disappoint! It’s the final day of the blog tour today …

Blurb:

Walking down the aisle in the packed church, sunlight glints off my ivory silk gown. This should be the happiest day of my life. But as I carefully lift my veil and greet my husband-to-be, my heart is pounding with fear. Does someone out there know what we’ve done?

Ethan gently squeezes my hand as he slides the golden ring onto my finger. But I know we aren’t worthy of happiness.

As I look down at my wedding ring, in a blistering flash, I suddenly remember another piece of that pitch-black, rainy night… but I try to focus on Ethan’s gorgeous blue eyes. I know exactly what he’s thinking. We can never tell.

All our family, friends and loved ones smile as they watch Ethan and I promise to be together until death us do part. But only we know what that really means…

Because we have already killed someone.

My dear, sweet new husband isn’t quite all he seems…

But then again, neither am I.

My Review:

This one hits the ground running! The drama literally starts on page one and doesn’t let up, with an undertone that runs throughout of … something that you sense is there but won’t be able to put your finger on until it’s there right in front of you! Yes, you might figure it out before the big reveal, but the journey you take to get there will be well worth the trip!

I identified with Nicci’s character so much, and I think that many others will too! She’s someone who might be called a ‘people pleaser’ (in fact her best friend Stacey does accuse her of being one – numerous times), but when you look at the circumstances, then you can understand the choices she’s made in her life when it comes to her job, and where she lives – well, at least I understood her! True, she’s not the best at standing up for herself, especially when it comes to the BIG stuff, but think about it … how many of us are? Yup! That’s a conversation starter all on its own!

While Nicci attempts to navigate the challenges she’s encountering in her life and wondering how much of it is actually valid, and how much is just pre-wedding jitters, she also tries to understand the behaviour of those closest to her. Her best friend Stacey, who is at best realistic, but prone to sharp and harsh remarks on many of Nicci’s decisions. Quite honestly, right now, Nicci could do with a bit more of a gentle approach, which isn’t forthcoming. Her dad, her rock and support, as lovely as he is, also isn’t really able to be there for her as she feels she can’t disappoint him.

And then there’s Ethan, who she’s about to marry … she knows she loves him and when he looks at her, she can see in his eyes how much he loves her. He doesn’t have a great family history, and didn’t have a good relationship with his own father – the opposite of the wonderful bond he has with Nicci’s own dad – she just couldn’t do anything to let him down. She’d never forgive herself! What is a girl to do?

Twists, turns and red herrings abound in this psychological thriller that will have you second-guessing yourself and just about every character in the book! It’s a great gasp-inducing read!
