Women who aren’t fit to be mothers; men who aren’t fit to be husbands; girls who can’t wait to be free of their roots to make lives of their own and create new futures. Unfortunately, it’s not always fiction.
Rosie and Ruby are cousins with equally appalling mothers. Rosie’s mom care’s more about appearances than her own daughter. Ruby’s mom cares about the string of men she brings home, and usually (conveniently) forgets she even has a daughter. It’s understandable that both girls can’t wait to leave home.
When Rosie breaks free it’s to enter into the hotel business where she works her way up, much to her mother’s disgust and embarrassment. Ruby marries Marcus who she thinks is her knight in shining armour. He turns out to be a vicious and manipulative abuser and she finds she’s moved from one hell into another.
But no matter where life takes them, the two cousins remain close. This is a wonderful read and is an inspiration to those who feel that they can’t break out of the rut they’re in. It’s a reminder that you can do anything you put your mind to, and that you should ignore the voices that say you can’t – whether those voices are inside our outside of your head! There will always be naysayers – don’t be your own biggest enemy!
Patricia Dixon creates characters who are likeable and believable. Her story flows well which makes for easy ready. This is a 4-star, recommended read.
Author Bio:
Patricia Dixon was born in Manchester where she still lives with her husband. They have two grown up children and one grandson.
Ignoring her high school reports and possibly sound advice from teachers, Patricia shunned the world of academia and instead, stubbornly pursued a career in fashion. Once the sparkle of London life wore off she returned north and embarked on a new adventure, that of motherhood.
Now, almost thirty years later she has acquiesced to the wise words of her elders and turned her hand to writing. Patricia has written a total of eight novels, the latest is due for release in March 2019.
