This is one of those books that everyone needs to read! Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a manager, a student (high school, college or of life itself), someone climbing your way up the ladder to wherever it is you’re trying to get to … this book is for YOU!
Ari Gunzburg wants you to know that we all have greatness within us and in this book he has handed us the tools to help us unlock it so that we can share it with others. In fact, he even starts off by describing us (loosely) as being lights in the darkness, helping each other find the way. But in order to understand how we can do this, he uses the simple art of storytelling which is something that makes it much easier for us to understand something that might be far to huge for us to even begin to contemplate.
So he uses a man by the name of David as his catalyst. David is not coping with his life and the constant buzz and interference that surrounds him. So he goes off to a place he remembers from his childhood to try to find some peace and to take the time to get a grasp on his current place in the world. Instead he meets a man who calls himself ‘Pinch’ who explains that our present, constant connection to devices and media (social or otherwise) is what disconnects us the most! He convinces David to go on a little journey and asks him to go and meet some people and spend some time talking to them. These people are going to teach him the 5 Keys to Greatness, and although David is at first (obviously) skeptical, at this point he’s willing to try anything to give his life the meaning he’s so desperately searching for. So off he goes.
This is a such a wonderful book with easy lessons to learn that really we all hold within us anyway. We just need that nudge to encourage them out into the world. And Ari Gunzburg does this … gently, kindly, beautifully … in this story that manages to be slightly magical while at the same time wholly, realistically, genuinely authentic. All you need to remember is that you have within you, the 5 Keys to be GREAT: Give, Reason, Engage, Amazing, Tenacity. Instead of an instructional self-help guide, Gunzburg has created something that I feel is a lot more accessible through his story of David’s journey. Readers will identify on an individual level and by so doing will find it easier to implement these tools in their daily lives.
This is a 5 star read which I highly recommend.
